Such long-range wireless charging technology is not science fiction and has existed for the past few years. A Malaysian company called Enhance Track Sdn. Bhd. is now working to build products based on the technology. This was recently revealed by NanoMalaysia Berhad (NMB) who is a business entity under the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation that overlooks commercialisation and industrialisation of nanotechnology in Malaysia. Enhance Track is one of NMB’s partners and the company’s long-range wireless charging technology is being developed under the National Graphene Action Plan.
Said to be the first of its kind in Malaysia, the RF-based long-range wireless charging tech is called Malaysian Energy Transmission Technology (METT). NMB has also revealed that Enhance Track has already built a working prototype in the form of a phone charger. However, it is not yet ready to be shown to the public although we were told by NMB representative that the product is expected to be available in the market sometime in mid-2021. Pricewise, the transmitter for METT charger is likely to cost between RM 1000 to RM 2000 while the estimated price tag for the receiver is around RM 300 to RM 500. Despite being around for quite a while, long-range wireless charging technology has yet to hit the mainstream level. So, it is interesting to see a Malaysian company exploring the space although as always, we definitely would like to see the actual product in action first before passing any judgement.
