To be precise, the performance data of the 3950X was discovered alongside Intel’s upcoming 18-cores, 36-threads, Core i9-10980XE CPU. In terms of scoring, the 3950X garnered a total score of 29663, while the Core i9-10980XE scored actually falters behind with 20703 points in total. That’s an approximate 24% performance difference between the two rivals.
It should be noted that in the 3DMark Fire Srike test, there some discrepancies in the hardware used to test both processors. Beside the CPUs using their respective chipsets, the 3950X was tested with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, while the Core i9-10980XE was paired with an RTX 2070. On GeekBench, the 3950X score 1276 points on the single-core test and 15401 on the multi-core test using an X570 motherboard by ASUS. As an extra added bonus, there’s also a score of the CPU running on a B450 motherboard. On that motherboard, the CPU scored 1314 points on the single-core test and 11140 points on the multi-core test.
Ultimately, the scores listed here are clearly leaning in toward’s AMD’s favour, especially given the hardware that the 3950X was tested with. On another note, there’s also the issue of the drivers that were used in the testing; it’s likely that the drivers used to test the CPU were still in beta, and as pointed out by Hot Hardware, driver updates can “change the landscape”.
