In total, AMD announced three new CPUs; the Ryzen 7 3700X, Ryzen 7 3800X, and the Ryzen 9 3900X. The Ryzen 3700X, in this case, is the brand’s entry-level processor for the high-end market. Technically speaking, it has an 8-cores, 16-threads count, a base and boost clock of 3.6GHz and 4.4GHz respectively, 36MB total Cache, and a total TDP of 65W. Compared to the first generation Ryzen 1700X, that’s a 30W power reduction, and a 40W reduction from the Ryzen 7 2700X.
By AMD’s benchmarks, the CPU is a direct competitor to Intel’s 9th generation Core i7-9700K, and the semiconductor makes no effort to conceal that fact. Put next to the competition in Cinebench R20, the Ryzen 7 3700X outpaces the Core i7-9700K by approximately 28% on the multi-threaded test. Moving down the list, the Ryzen 7 3800X is the second high-end consumer CPU to be announced today. Like the 3700X, the 3800X features the same core count and total cache, but a higher base and boost clockspeed at 3.9GHz and 4.5GHz. Unlike the 3700X, however, its TDP is still set at 105W. Understandably so, given its high-performance nature.
Of course, the main dish of AMD’s CPU ensemble was none other than the Ryzen 9 3900X. It is the first consumer-level CPU to sport a 12-cores, 24-threads setup, with a base and boost clock of 3.8GHz and 4.6GHz, respectively. Additionally, it also has a massive total cache of 70MB, and a TDP of 105W. In terms of performance, AMD says that the CPU is about 6% more efficient than Intel’s HEDT Core i9-9920X CPU on a multi-threaded test, and 14% more powerful on a single-threaded test. The new CPUs are still based on AMD’s currently existing AM4 platform. However, these are also the first CPU to support the new PCIe 4.0 standard, and also come has a new X570 chipset.
You won’t even have to wait too long to own these CPUs. AMD says that all three CPUs will be available globally from 7 July 2019 onwards. Price-wise, AMD is clearly pricing its processors aggressively; the Ryzen 7 3700X will retail for US$329 (~RM1377), the Ryzen 7 3800X at US$399 (~RM1670), and the Ryzen 9 3900X at US$499 (~RM2089). In any case, we definitely can’t wait to review the CPUs when they become available.
