The leak was first picked up by the Apple-centric site, 9to5Mac, who was supposedly digging through the source code of Apple’s iOS 15.5 beta release. Supposedly, the code makes references to “enhanced Focus and News functionality” for a device with newer software, as well as the possibility of exclusive upgrades for devices no longer fully supported on older devices. What is interesting is that, aside from the planned Focus mode overhaul, it also sheds light on Apple’s plan to officially cut off the kite strings from another older generation of iPhones and iPads. For context, the oldest generation of products that iOS 15 currently supports goes all the way back to the iPhone 6S and iPad Mini 4, both of which were launched back in 2015. In other words, those among you still stuck with those said devices may have to trade up for something newer later this year. Of course, most of these supposed upgrades are expected to benefit Apple’s next mobile device, the iPhone 14 and, more importantly, the upcoming iOS 16 beta, which is likely to make its appearance sometime in June.
