Despite having the same name, the 17.3-inch version of ROG Zephyrus S comes with a different model number which is GX701. Aesthetically, the two look pretty similar, as far as the overall design goes. For example, the laptop’s thin bottom panel still exis on the new model, as well as the hybrid touchpad and numerical pad combo. But one key difference in the way the two Zephyrus S laptops look is the hinge between the display and the keyboard.
In the 15.6-inch Zephyrus S, the hinge doesn’t sit at the corner of the two slates, so there’s a small protrusion at the base when you flip it open. With this 17.3-inch model, it looks like ASUS has moved the hinge further back. The display itself is a Full HD IPS panel with 144Hz refresh rate and support for G-Sync tech. Interestingly, the new laptops is equipped with a dedicated NVIDIA Optimus switch that lets you toggle between the dedicated NVIDIA GPU or Intel integrated graphics. Speaking of GPU, this larger Zephyrus S also comes armed with up to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q graphics alongside Intel Core i7-8750H processor, and 24GB of DDR4 RAM.
While this new Zephyrus S doesn’t come with an integrated webcam, ASUS does provide an option for customers to add a specially designed cam for the laptop called ROG GC21. Featuring the ability to record Full HD at 60fp, users can either mount the external cam on the usual webcam position or leave it sitting on the desk beside the Zephyrus S. The announcement made by ASUS states that its ROG gaming notebooks using GeForce RTX GPUs will start selling in Q1 of 2019.
