The decision to create its own streaming service has been on the chopping block for quite some time (since 2017, in fact). Along with the service’s new name, there is confirmation that Disney will be creating Disney+ exclusive shows as well. Some of the exclusive shows include Marvel’s “Loki” show featuring Tom Hiddleston, a prequel to Star Wars’ “Rogue One”, and an original animated series based on Pixar’s “Monster’s Inc”.

The US will (quite obviously) be the first market for Disney+. Needless to say, it will be vying for a piece of a pie that already includes other major players such as CBS, Hulu and Netflix. At the time writing, there’s no news of Disney’s intent to venture out and beyond the US market. If the service is limited to the US, it will be a sad day for Disney fans, many of whom already enjoying the studio’s shows on Netflix. On top of that, consumers in the US will also undoubtedly need to fork out a subscription fee that has yet to be decided by Disney. (Source: Disney, CNBC via Thurrott.com)
