The social media company says that it has fixed the issue the day after it was discovered. But the company didn’t mention the period of time the issue was around before it was fixed. But since Facebook says it came up with the 5000 estimate based on “the last several months of data we have available”, it’s definitely not a short-lived issue.
Facebook also did not disclose the number of users affected by this issue. But for what it’s worth, only data that users previously allow to be shared was accessible to the developers. The company says it will continue to investigate the issue. In the large scheme of things, this is definitely not as big an issue as it was with the whole Cambridge Analytica thing. That being said, it still shows that you’ll have to be careful with what sort of info you share with not only Facebook, but the apps on the social media platform. (Source: Facebook)
