More specifically, Bethesda plans to add two different types of Repair Kits to the game – Basic and Improved. These allow players to restore equipment deteriorated from use, without the need for a workbench or consuming materials.

The Improved Repair Kits are a potential reward dropped from bosses, and they bring the condition of equipment up to 150%. On the other hand, Basic Repair Kits are purchased from the Atomic Shop using Atoms, Fallout 76’s premium currency that’s also occasionally awarded from gameplay. In either form, these kits allow players to improve the condition of their equipment on the fly. Players have voiced their concerns that it will be an advantage to those who spend on premium currency over those who don’t. This will be especially true in the case of the game’s Survival Beta mode, where PvE and PvP elements are combined.

In the end, some would still debate if this is indeed a pay-to-win addition to the game. For one there’s no clear stat advantage. But on the flip side, keeping your equipment in tip-top condition more easily is still an advantage nevertheless, especially if they deal or absorb more damage.
