Unlike regular Instax cameras, the SQ1 and other instant cameras under Fujifilm’s SQUARE series uses a, well, square version of the Instax Mini films that are 1.5 times larger. The new device itself features a minimalistic design and interface, sacrificing fancier features such as an LCD screen which results in its more budget-friendly price tag. The Instax SQUARE SQ1 includes two built-in automatic features: Auto Exposure and One-Touch Selfie Mode. The first utilises ambient light levels to optimise shutter speed and flash output, which results in more natural looking photos regardless of the environment you’re shooting in. Meanwhile, the second feature limits your focus range to 0.3 to 0.5m for close-up shots by rotating the lens into the “Selfie” position. Like all of the other Instax cameras, a mirror for self-portraits is located near the SQ1’s lens.

According to Fujifilm, the new Instax SQUARE SQ1 will be released sometime in mid-October this year. The camera is available in Terracotta Orange, Glacier Blue or Chalk White, and is priced at USD120 (~RM495). The SQ1’s listing is present on the Fujifilm Instax website in Malaysia, but its local pricing and release date are still unconfirmed. (Source: Fujifilm Instax [US] [Malaysia])
