Twitter user @EldenRingUpdate has video footage of this, showing an invader crashing their game to desktop. Upon rebooting Elden Ring, they find their character immediately dying, going through the loading screen, and then immediately dying again. According to Eurogamer, a similar exploit also existed for Dark Souls 3.

There’s an exploit going around on PC where hackers will corrupt your save file while you’re invaded. First they will crash your game, and when you open it back up, your character will be constantly falling to their death… pic.twitter.com/8et3bl8T1I — Mordecai (@EldenRingUpdate) March 18, 2022 Redditors have found a workaround that looks to have worked for a few Elden Ring players on PC, but not all. It involves hitting Alt+F4 immediately once the game boots, and before your character dies. If done correctly, this gives your character about an extra second before they die again. In that extra second, you’ll have to do three things in rapid succession – open the map, open the list of Sites of Grace, and confirm. Fortunately, this can be done with three very quick button presses. Unfortunately, it’s not a surefire fix. At any rate, it’s probably a good time to turn of invasions for your playthrough of Elden Ring on PC. Until a fix is issued, it’s better to not take such risks. If you’re on console, then remember to always save and quit, and don’t use rest mode as a means to pause your game. (Source: @EldenRingUpdate, Reddit via Eurogamer)
