As per its earlier announcement, the bank once again didn’t disclose the true nature of the problem faced by its debit card. The statement also didn’t specifically mention whether the issue affects only its Visa debit cards or also the bank’s MasterCard debit cards as well. Similarly, the notice did not mention any expected recovery time too. Hence, it is possible that the bank may take quite a while to solve the issues and with just one week to go before Hari Raya Aidilfitri arrived, we reckoned that this might be inconvenient to many users out there. Meanwhile, we will keep you posted if there is any update on the situation. So, stay tuned. (Thanks for the tips, @lohhw3!) UPDATE (7:03 PM): At around 1:40 PM, Maybank released a press statement which provided a little bit of colour to the technical difficulties faced by its online and debit card services. The bank claimed that it has experienced a high amount of traffic since morning that eventually brought those services down to their knees. Recovery only took place at around 3:20 PM when Maybank announced the debit card services have been restored alongside Maybank2U services via its website and M2U MY app. Access to FPX services followed suit at 5:12 PM and the MAE app went online again at 6:35 PM. We apologise to all affected customers for the inconvenience caused from this disruption. We appreciate the understanding and patience of our customers and will continue to update them periodically via Maybank’s official social media and M2U platforms.”
