According to industry sources, the HONOR 9X will surprisingly be coming to Malaysia, complete with all the trimmings that are part and parcel with GMS. As to how this is possible, the source told us that one reason is due to the chipset in the phone, which is a Kirin 710 SoC. Beyond, the source failed to provide a full explanation for this unique loophole. Luckily, as per the explanation of German-based leakster, Roland Quandt (@rquandt), this is due to two possible reason. The first is due to the fact that the Kirin 710 SoC was released before the ban, which is supposedly exempted from the ban.
The second explanation is actually similar to the first; by comparison, the HONOR 9X is essentially a mirror of the 2019 Huawei Y9 Prime, the main differences between them being the better camera and memory configuration on the former. Because the Y9 Prime had received certification long before the embargo, that technically exempts the HONOR 9X from the ban. The HONOR 9X is expected to arrive in Malaysia sometime soon, although when exactly is still unclear. Besides the Kirin 710 SoC, the phone’s main triple camera array will house a 48MP module as one of its sensors.
