While there wasn’t a physical unit shown during the brand’s keynote, George Zhao, President of HONOR, did lay down some of the hardware that will be present with HONOR Vision. For a starter, the new display will be powered by the Honghu 818 SoC, a chipset that was developed by both Huawei and Baidu. Unlike the Kirin chipset, it’s clear that Honghu was made for its upcoming smart display endeavour.
Zhao goes on to say that the Honghu 818 will have computing power and decoding capabilities that will enable HONOR Vision to have both excellent picture and sound quality. Further, and like most TV-centric processors, it looks like the chipset will also have some form of AI technology. That will help in 64MP image decoding, super resolution, motion estimate and compensation, noise reduction, and HDR to name a few.
More importantly, it appears that HONOR will also be offering a pop-up camera with the HONOR Vision. Functioning in the same way most pop-cameras do on smartphones. That said, the concept of the pop-up camera for TVs isn’t exactly new; Samsung and LG once adopted the feature into their smart TV years ago, back when the 3DTV trend was still alive and kicking.
In any case, HONOR Vision is already available for reservations in China, at an asking price of 9999 Yuan (~RM5979). The listing does show that the display will come in a size of 55-inches, as well as a glimpse of how the pop-up camera will look like.
