One major change in the Huawei Nova 8 SE series when compared to the previous models is the choice of chipsets included. Rather than using the brand’s own Kirin SoC, the Nova 8 SE and its High Edition variant uses MediaTek’s 5G-enabled Dimensity 720 and Dimensity 800U chipsets respectively. Both models come with 8GB RAM, 128GB storage, and runs on Huawei’s EMUI 10.1 (based on Android 10).
The duo is equipped with a 6.53-inch FHD+ OLED display with a waterdrop notch that houses a 16MP selfie camera, as well as an in-display fingerprint scanner. Also onboard is a 3,800mAh battery with 66W fast charging support via USB-C, which promises to fully charge either device to 100% in approximately 30 minutes. Other than that, both models include a 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity, dual SIM support, and dual-band WiFi. The new Huawei Nova 8 SE series features a quad camera setup, which is housed in a square camera island. The setup consists of a 64MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide, 2MP macro, and a 2MP depth sensor.
The Nova 8 SE series will go on sale in China starting 11 November 2020, with the standard variant priced at CNY2,599 (~RM1,622) and the High Edition at CNY2,699 (~RM1,684). The new mid-range smartphones will be available in four colour options: blue, white, lavender and black. Its availability outside of China has not been confirmed for now.
