Specifically, certain Lenovo laptops with less that 8GB of RAM may have issues with booting up after installing the patch for the security flaw. Microsoft is currently working on a solution for this broken fix, but in the meantime, affected users will have to work their way around this problem through another avenue.
The workaround in question involves entering the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) menu and disabling Secure Boot. If the affected machine has BitLocker enabled, then a recovery key will be required to decrypt files within. It’s strange that an update to patch the security holes of Internet Explorer can cause an entire system to fail. Even with this knowledge, Lenovo laptop owners are still caught between a rock and hard place. Notebooks that fit the description will either have to be left unpatched and exposed to hijacking, or run the risk of having their machine fail to boot by letting the patch run be installed.
