If you want to learn more about peering and how MyIX operates, you definitely want to check out the feature that we did about the Internet exchange back in 2017. But this time around, we would like to point your attention to its traffic report which covers the on-going Movement Control Order (MCO). MyIX recently stated that it has recorded a peak traffic of 532Gbps during the early part of MCO which has shattered the organization’s 2019 record which peaked out at 500Gbps. Today, MyIX has revealed that the record has been surpassed once again at 588Gbps. The Chairman of MyIX, Chiew Kok Hin pointed out that the increased demand during MCO is likely due to higher consumption of audio-visual contents alongside increased number of e-learning activities and video conferences. He has also revealed that some of the telcos that peered with MyIX has progressively added more ports at the exchange in order to cope with the rising traffic. In a move to help the industry sail through these challenging times, MyIX has also decided to waive the charges for these new ports for the next three months. At the same time, the organization has also waived the charges to the existing ports for this month and provided discounts of 20% to 23% for their usages depending on the capacity of respective ports. Prior to this, MyIX is already working to open two more additional nodes in Cyberjaya to further expand their capabilities, thus allowing more network to peer with the exchange. Currently, MyIX already operating two main nodes at AIMS Data Centre and CSF Building in Cyberjaya with two more supplemental nodes in Iskandar Puteri, Johor and Kuching, Sarawak.
