Specifically, the attacks involved the defacement of Malaysian websites. MyCERT didn’t provide any specific example in its notice but has stated that the affected websites were left with nasty messages to certain organizations in Malaysia. Meanwhile, a similar type of attack has also been mentioned in a recent notice by the National Cyber Security Agency which is an agency under the National Security Council. According to the monitoring done by the National Cyber Coordination and Command Centre, it has also noticed an increased amount of attacks on Malaysian organizations involving DDoS, malware, and web defacement for the past few weeks. We have also stumbled upon another notice on the official website for the Sabah state government which stated that the authorities were expecting a cyber attack campaign from Indonesia earlier today. According to the document that was attached to the notice, the advisory was issued by MCMC Network Security Centre although this particular notice is not publicly available on MCMC’s website at the time this article is published. Despite these notices, we have yet to hear any major incidents for the time being though. So, let’s hope it will remain that way as long as possible.  (Source: MyCERT, NASCA, Sabah State Government.
