The Microsoft Surface Book 2 is running on previous 7th generation Intel CPUs and NVIDIA’s GeForce 10 series GPUs, while the refreshed models with 8th generation Intel CPUs have been around since last April. Needless to say, the notebook range is due an update. It was also rumoured that Microsoft could possibly opt to use an AMD chipset instead of Intel chipset, which would definitely a breath of fresh air. If the rumour rings true, it wouldn’t Microsoft’s first foray with AMD; the company’s Xbox One consoles are all powered by an AMD chipset, and its next console, Project Scarlett, is expected to house the chipmaker’s Ryzen and Radeon RX technology.
There’s also the possibility that Microsoft could be unveiling their first dual-screen device at the event, and the stylised Windows logo on the invitation suggests a change in its design. Rumours of a Surface Mini have been around for years, but its CEO, Satya Nadella, reportedly killed it off just weeks before its launch. Prior to this announcement, we can also expect Microsoft to announce Windows Lite, a stripped-down version of regular Windows OS designed for lite computing and dual-screen devices. Originally, Microsoft released Windows 10 S for Surface devices but was unable to gain traction from users.
