Now, it seems that the government may have identified super app as the future for MySejahtera. In conjunction with World Health Day, the Minister of Communications and Multimedia Saifuddin Abdullah has said that the national COVID-19 contact tracing and vaccination app has the potential to become a super app that could provide multiple services in a single platform for Malaysians.
Minister Saifuddin added that the app could be expanded to cover other sectors such as e-commerce, education, and delivery service. However, he didn’t clearly state in his statement whether the expanded role is just a suggestion or an actual work in progress. Having a one-stop centre for government services under one app could prove to be very useful. At the same time, the commercial value of MySejahtera’s massive user base at almost 25 million is not something that the government would overlook as well. In fact, Selangor’s own contact tracing app SELangkah already embarked on its own super app journey earlier this year.
