Sepanggar MP Datuk Mohd Azis Jamman said that internet access is now no longer a luxury, but a need. He said that the internet is now used in rural areas to communicate, perform transactions, and even teach. But despite teachers organising online classes, many students are unable to access them due to insufficient data.

People are also struggling to buy data, as other essentials like food take priority. This is especially the case when parents lose their jobs, and income as a result, during the MCO period. Not being able to go online has also caused some Sepanggar constituents to miss out on online household data allocation by the Sabah state government. Azis acknowledges that telcos are currently working with the government, with subscribers to most telcos getting 1GB of free data daily. But on the flip side, he says that internet use will likely increase due the the MCO entering phase three. (Source: Daily Express)
