While there still the four Working Groups within the task force, the amount of members has now increased to 110. As a comparison, the task force has 31 members in December 2018 although we have yet to receive the updated list of members from MCMC at the time this article is published.
At the same time, MCMC has also stated that the task force has begun its spectrum study to help determine the proper section for 5G implementation in Malaysia. Similarly though, the regulatory body didn’t provide any details regarding the study’s timeline as well as the potential spectrum scope that it might be focusing on at the moment. In addition to all that, MCMC is also working to establish closer cooperation with ministries that are related to areas that would receive huge benefits from 5G. Among them include the Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry, Ministry of Housing and Local Government, and Ministry of International Trade and Industry.
We were also informed that an interim report on the 5G project has also been submitted to the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia. We have since reached out to MCMC to find out if this particular report will be made available to the public or otherwise. While there is plenty of in-depth information that has not been revealed to the public just yet, it seems that the 5G Malaysia project is well underway. For now, the aim to achieve 5G commercial rollout in Malaysia by 2021 or 2022 seems quite feasible.
