ORIGINAL STORY (2:51 PM): Although Sony announced that the PlayStation 5 will be made available to consumers starting this November, the company has yet to announce the exact launch date and pricing for Malaysia. So far, Singapore is the only market in Southeast Asia that has obtained a confirmed release date. There were indeed rumours of stock shortage which was said due to lower yield rate for the PS5’s processor which was then shot down by Sony not long after. However, an observation made by Reddit user Papin97 regarding PlayStation 5 websites across Southeast Asia may increase anxiety among gamers that have been waiting to hear more about the release of the console in other countries within this region. [L-R]: PS5 Malaysian site today as compared to the same site on 14 October.Papin97 has noted that the Holiday 2020’s remark on the PS5’s page within the PlayStation websites across Southeast Asia is now gone including Malaysia. We have verified this through Internet Web Archive in which the remark was still there on the  snapshot taken on 14 October but missing on another snapshot that was archived on 15 October. While some gamers may not be concerned about this as they might be able to afford stocks from Singapore but for many, having local units is the way to go. Furthermore, the pricing on non-Malaysian stocks will likely be under the control of importers, hence it is quite possible that the pricing of those units would be inflated and those that are too eager to get the PS5 for themselves may be paying too much for the console. Meanwhile, we have since reached out to Sony Interactive Entertainment for further clarification. So, stay tuned. UPDATE (3:15 PM): SIE has swiftly got back to us with regards to our query over the statement: Well, the statement surely didn’t provide any guarantee if we will be seeing PS5 released in Malaysia within the year-end season. It does confirm that PS5 is indeed on the way here but for the time being, it looks like Malaysian gamers have to play the long the long waiting game until further notice, as opposed to their counterparts in Singapore. Stay tuned. Thank you for your patience and support.”
