While today’s announcement only covers just a gist of what Snapdragon 865 has to offer but nevertheless, it is still enough to provide a general picture of the capabilities that are contained within the new flagship chip.
For starters, the ISP on the new Snapdragon 865 is able to process up to 2 Gigapixel per second which the company claimed as the first such mobile ISP in the world that able to achieve that. This allows the chip to support camera with resolution up to 200MP alongside the ability to capture 8K videos. Not only that, the ISP also allows Snapdragon 865 devices to capture 4K video and 64MP image at the same time. Aside from that, Qualcomm also claimed that the AI performance on the chip’s 5th generation AI Engine is up to two times more than its predecessor or three times more when it is compared with other competitors.
Not to forget, the Snapdragon 865 is also designed to be paired with the 2nd generation Snapdragon X55 5G modem-RF system which supports multiple 5G standards including mmWave, sub-6GHz, standalone, non-standalone, and spectrum sharing. In other words, devices that are powered by Snapdragon 865 should be able to connect to many 5G networks throughout the world, regardless of the standards that they adopted. The Snapdragon X55 modem-RF system is also able to deliver speeds of up to 7 Gbps. Fret not, it also still able to support LTE, 3G, and 2G networks.
Naturally, the new Snapdragon 865 will be made available in 2020 although the exact release timeline has not yet been revealed. That being said, do expect more details regarding Snapdragon 865 to be revealed later this week, so stay tuned.
