When it comes to Galaxy Z Flip’s design, it is no longer a secret anymore as the phone’s advertisement has already been broadcast during the recent Academy Awards in addition to a long string of leaks for the past few months. In case you missed it though, the new Galaxy Z Flip features a clamshell form factor which resembles the feature flip phone of yesterday years. The Galaxy Z Flip comes with a 6.7-inch Full HD+ Dynamic AMOLED Infinity Flex display which is protected by a layer of bendable Ultra Thin Glass which is apparently a proprietary material from Samsung itself. The device also features another 1.1-inch Super AMOLED display that users can use to check for their notifications or as a viewfinder when they snap selfies using the phone’s main camera. Speaking about camera, the Galaxy Z Flip features a 12MP f/1.8 Dual Pixel main camera on its back alongside another 12MP ultra wide-angle f/2.4 camera. On the front, there is also the 10MP f/2.4 cm in-display camera. Naturally, Samsung also took the opportunity at Unpacked 2020 to talk about Galaxy Z Flip hinge which the company called Hideaway Hinge. The company pointed out that it features a dual CAM mechanism that ensures the hinge smoothness and also includes nylon fibres which help protect the hinge from dirt as well as dust. With the ability to be unfolded at multiple angles, Samsung also claimed that the Hideaway Hinge on Galaxy Z Flip is designed to withstand up to 200,000 times of folding and unfolding actions. If you take that number and divide by 100 times per day, that means the Galaxy Z Flip’s hinge should be able to last up till 5 years. Working together with Google, the Galaxy Z Flip also features a custom mode called Flex mode which splits its screen when used in a free-standing position. This way, users can run two different applications on these screens. In terms of processing power, the Galaxy Z Flip relies on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ processor alongside 8GB of RAM and 256GB internal storage. Completing its general specifications is a 3300mAh battery which supports Wireless PowerShare as well as fast charging through both cable and wireless charger. Price-wise, the Galaxy Z Flip will go for USD 1,380 (~RM 5,703) when it goes into the United States market on 14 February. At this moment, Samsung has yet to reveal the availability of the new foldable phone in Malaysia but since it has already appeared on Samsung Malaysia’s website, we guess it is only a matter of time before the Galaxy Z Flip made its way into our market.
