This is because the original Z Flip and Z Flip 5G were essentially the same devices. What separated them apart are mainly the beefier processor and 5G capability of the latter device.
Most of the major changes that Samsung has implemented on the Z Flip3 revolved around design. For example, the area surrounding the phone rear dual camera and Cover Screen is draped in a glossy black finish while the rest of the phone is matte. While it still has the same weight as the original Z Flip at 183grams, Samsung claimed that the new Z Flip3 is much slimmer than its predecessor. Depending on whether it is in folded mode or otherwise, the differences are between 0.2mm to 1.3mm when compared to the original Z Flip.
Aside from physical design, it seemed that Samsung has put extra focus on durability. Just like the Z Fold3, the Z Flip3 is also an IPX8-rated device which means it can withstand being submerged underwater up to the depth of 1.5 meters for 30 minutes although Samsung was quick to point out that the test was done with freshwater. In addition to that, the Z Flip 3 also features Armor Aluminum which Samsung claimed as the strongest aluminium that it has used for a Galaxy phone to date. The company has also opted for the new Corning Gorilla Glass Victus to help protect the Z Flip3 but unfortunately, the phone is not dust resistant though as per what you can tell from its IPX8 rating.
Another major difference between Z Flip3 and its predecessor is a significantly larger Super AMOLED-based Cover Screen which has grown from 1.1-inch to 1.9-inch on the new model. Users now not only have more space to see their notifications, they can now also access certain settings and initiate Samsung Pay through the screen. Samsung has also implemented eight widgets into the screen including music, weather, schedule, alarm, voice recorder, timer, Samsung Health stats, and Galaxy Buds controller. As for its main screen, the Z Flip3 still carries a 6.7-inch Full HD+ display but this time around, its Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel offers a 120Hz refresh rate as compared to the 60Hz panel in the original Z Flip.
Photography-wise, the Z Flip3 offers the same setup as per Z Flip though with a 12MP f/1.8 main camera and 12MP f/2.2 ultra-wide camera on its rear as well as a 10MP f/2.4 selfie camera. Similarly, the foldable phone also continues to carry 8GB of RAM, a 3300mAh battery and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor just like its predecessor. In case you are worried about its processor, the Z Flip3 does come with a current generation chip in the form of Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 and Samsung has also provided the phone with stereo speakers instead of mono. While the company has yet to provide details regarding the phone’s availability in Malaysia, the Z Flip3 has a general base price of USD999.99 (~RM4,240) once it begins making its way to consumers’ hands throughout the world starting later this month.
