Specs-wise, SK Hynix has managed to fit a single memory stick with 16GB of memory and has the ability to run between frequencies of 4800Mbps and 5600Mbps. Statistically, that’s approximately 1.8 times faster than the average DDR4 memory module speed. Further, the memory maker has managed to lower the operating voltage for DDR5, from 1.2V to 1.1V. SK Hynix’s new DDR5 memory also comes with Error Correcting Code (ECC) installed within its chips, and is capable of correcting errors on a 1-bit level. In addition, the brand also says that it with its through-silicon-via (TSV) technology, it is possible to create DDR5 modules with up to 256GB memory capacities.
As mentioned earlier, SK Hynix’s DDR5 RAM is currently being used in datacentres and tasks that involve machine learning and AI applications, and not on consumer-level systems for obvious reasons. Having said that, the company has already passed off some sample products to Intel, who has reportedly completed several tests and verifications of the module’s functions and compatibility.
