Based on the video, it seems that the DepthSense 3D camera technology is using TOF (Time of Flight) technology, which is what enables the little girl in the video create those light paintings in AR (Augmented Reality) mode for her father. The video also goes on to showcase the other applications of the technology, including sending messages, and modified photos and videos. Interestingly enough, and if you pay close attention, the smartphone being used in the demo video doesn’t look anything like an Xperia smartphone. But a rather generic looking iPhone look alike. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWrUKx_EcOY On that note, it does look like the technology could make its way over to Sony’s next flagship smartphone, the Xperia XZ4, before ultimately finding its way down into the software of older generation Xperia flagship models.
