Citing a Weibo post, Japanese website SumahoDigest reports that next year’s Sony Xperia 1 V will sport a 48MP main camera. This is also said to be the same ones found on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, though which one exactly it is remains unknown for now. That being said, if they are indeed the same sensor, this technically means 12MP images after taking pixel binning into account. And it’s much the same story with the secondary – and presumed wide-angle – camera. Though where things get interesting is the camera with telephoto zoom. The Weibo post claims that this will a periscope camera, delivering the equivalent of 70-200mm focal length, or 2.9 – 8.3x optical zoom. To compare, the current generation Sony Xperia 1 IV features a focal length equivalent to 85mm – 125mm, or 3.5x – 5.2x zoom. It will also reportedly by a modified IMX557 sensor, which had appeared in Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 devices since the second generation. All of this sounds pretty impressive, and is technically in line with the new generation Sony Xperia devices using only 12MP shooters across the board. Though it will be awhile before any of this will get confirmed. After all, these days Sony usually only unveils its Xperia 1 flagship around the month of May. With that in mind, we probably won’t see a reveal during next year’s MWC, which takes place between late February and early March. (Source: Weibo, SumahoDigest via NotebookCheck)
