Serial app reverse engineer Jane Manchun Wong shared this discovery on Twitter. From the screenshots, a microphone icon will be added to the Spotify mobile app when the feature goes live. Which can be a tad confusing as the microphone icon is currently used as the lyrics switch on the desktop software. But on mobile, when you tap on it, there will be the option to have more or less vocals. Presumably, this option applies to the default song file, so you can control the level of vocal backup you get.

At least one song will make use of this, and that is Rick Astley’s Never Gonna Give You Up, as tested by Wong. This can be a feature that sees a lot of use, now that traffic seems to have reverted to the pre-COVID-19 days. You can probably use this to scream your heart out while driving.
