The CCCS fined both companies for a total that’s equivalent to RM39.32 million. According to Reuters, Grab is not appealing the decision, while Uber says that it is appealing independently as a “matter of principle.”
Uber also said that the CCCS had used a very narrow definition of the ride-hailing market. The company added that Go-Jek, Indonesia’s ride-hailing brand, will make for very strong competition when it lands on Singapore’s shores. Through the Reuters report, it looks like the competition watchdog of the Philippines also fined both companies.
