The smartphone, known as the Vivo IFEA, introduces a new approach to smartphone photography and video capture with the aforementioned technology. The pop-up module is capsule-sized and consists of two unspecified cameras in the render, but featuring a single lens when showcased in their proof-of-concept (POC) video.
Being able to function remotely while detached, it’s expected that the module includes its own battery that is chargeable when attached to IFEA. The phone would also alert users if it detects that the camera module is left behind. As demonstrated in the video (embedded above), the detachable camera is shown to be capable of taking photos and videos from difficult or flexible angles remotely from the smartphone. One example also showcased the module to function as a makeshift action camera that can be attached to dog collars and capture its point of view. No form of stabilisation is present but then again, this is merely a proof of concept rather than a finalised product.
It’s also worth noting that the Vivo IFEA concept smartphone and its detachable remote pop-up camera was awarded a Red Dot Design Award for this innovation.
