The chemistry between Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) and Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) was excellent and their romance felt sincere. The climactic moment that sees Steve profess his love to Diana before sacrificing himself for the greater good is a powerful and emotionally resonant moment. Which is why when it was initially announced that Chris Pine would be returning to play Steve in Wonder Woman 1984, many fans were taken aback. After all, bringing Steve Trevor back from the dead runs the risk of undoing a great moment in the first movie. In a closeup with THR Patty Jenkins opened up about her decision to bring back the character. While she refrained from providing any narrative details, the talented helmer did say why she was eager to work with Chris Pine again, claiming that the actor has “a bunch of dimensions” to his performance.
